I very occasionally, maybe overall one out of every 50 pages (a guess), ran into an underlined word (always in pencil) and usually a written word or a few words to the right on the margin relating to the underline.

The only other page issue is, in my opinion, quite minor. That too might be something you would want to ask for a few photos of. In the other volume the edge of it can be seen in the middle of the pages, again where it is present. In two the volumes it is restricted to the margin when it is present. Another page flaw is evident in three of the volumes, and that is light water staining. This may be what you might want to ask me to send extra photos of. There are many more that I would describe as having none and close to none. There are occasional pages I would describe as having 'heavy' foxing. So, for what it's worth, I would say that it ranges, in the main, from light to moderate. Here it gets tricky because one person's definition of 'light' or 'moderate' or 'heavy' may easily vary from another's. On the less positive side, all of the volumes have some degree of spotting/foxing. There may be a few other tears (we're talking about some 4000 pages, give or take), but from what I did see, tears and loss don't seem to be an issue. And there isn't much in the way of corner creases. Leafing through all five volumes I saw only one tear (on the front flyleaf of Volume II) and no losses. Now for the pages: quite positively, they are fairly bright as opposed to toned, and there is a real minimum (as in very, very little) of soiling. Not much on the middle edges or at the corners. There is moderate scuffing and surface rub-through at the bottom and top edges. A couple of the volumes have small tears at the top juncture between the front cover and spine, but they are too small to impact the binding. None of the covers show any looseness or give.

Perhaps most importantly, all five volumes are quite well-bound.

Volume I has rubbing/scuffing that to a degree obscures the gilt lettering. The leather spines are in generally good condition, taking into account age. The front and back covers of the volumes are in a marbled design and are in very nice condition with very minimal wear ( a couple of small spots of rub-through). I'm limited to 5 photographs, but I would be quite willing to send others directly to anyone who asks. I'll do my best to give you a sense of the condition of the volumes. On the last page of the fifth volume it states 'Fine Del Quinto Ed Ultimo Volume' (end of the fifth and final volume). I'm offering this set at a very steep discount to the very few others ($750-1200) for sale on the Internet.
